IAN FLANIGAN PREMIERES NEW TRACK “WHAT’S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT”

On May 1984, Tina Turner recorded the Graham Lyle and Terry Britten song “What’s Love Got To Do with It” for her fifth studio album Private Dancer, and it eventually became Turner’s biggest-selling single. It’s interesting to note that Britten played guitars, bass, LinnDrum and did background vocals, and produced the song. In February 1985, the song received three awards at the Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the song, Ian Flanigan (with Lenesha Randolph) recorded this new version, saying “I’m a huge Tina Turner fan and ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’ has always been one of my favorite songs of hers. The production is great and the bridge was always really unexpected for me, musically. Tina and I have completely different voices, so my producer Jon Stone and I thought it would be fun to pay homage to her and put our own spin on her song. It’s Tina’s 40th anniversary for ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It” and I can remember back to when I was a kid first hearing her and this song. I just remember how much energy she had, and how rocking her vocals were. She’s been such an inspiration for me and the whole music world. It’s always an honor to cover one of her songs.”

Ian Flanigan’s gritty vocals add a steely-edged meaning to the lyrics of this Tina Turner classic on the 40th anniversary of the song’s original release.

Flanigan found fame by becoming Blake Shelton’s finalist on NBC’s The Voice, where he was dubbed a “once-in-a-lifetime vocalist” by Shelton. Since that time, he has released an album with chart-topping singles (“Grow Up” reached #5 on the US iTunes sales chart, approaching 3 million streams), extensively toured with the likes of Trace Adkins and Chris Janson, and will release his sophomore album, with more singles and videos being released this year. He has been featured on CMT, RFD-TV, Fox News, Whiskey Riff, The Music Universe, Country Now, Everything Nash, Entertainment Tonight, People magazine, USA Today, Yahoo News, and The Wrap.

Slow, stoic, southern grace is how Ian can be accurately described. He is humble yet focused, peaceful but engaged, and undisputedly talented. For the last decade, he has toured his distinct voice and evocative lyrics across America, with a country sound reminiscent of Joe Cocker and Chris Stapleton.

Flanigan represents Taylor Guitars, Lucchese, Kicker Audio, and Suerte Tequila, as a brand ambassador, gains exposure as a Reviver Publishing writer in Nashville, and released his debut album Strong in 2022 on Reviver Records. His new album is set to release in Fall 2024.

Of a recent single, Flanigan says “Growing up, we used to have this 10-acre property outside of town where anything could happen. ‘Rather Be Country’ is about those wild times, good people, and a thousand stories not fit to tell.”

One to never sit still, Flanigan was one of the featured artists at the 2024 Buckle & Boots Festival in Manchester, UK which included the Heartwreckers, The Country Orchestra, Maggie Baugh, Dan Smalley, Jon Stone, Emilia Quinn, Canaan Cox, First Time Flyers, Matt Hodges, Luke Flear, Taylor Moss, and more.

Flanigan has consistently released fan-favorite singles such as “Grow Up” featuring Blake Shelton, “Last Name On It,” and “Under A Southern Sky,” showing not only his versatility as a singer but as a songwriter as well.
