Elixir invented coated strings to combat the tone-killing grime that accumulates between string windings. The newly reformulated NANOWEB for Bass delivers tone and feel even closer to uncoated strings than Elixir’s original offering. (For reference’s sake, a set of the original Elixir NANOWEBs shipped on the Ibanez we reviewed in the fall, and they still sound great.) Here we tested the new Elixir Stainless Steel 5-String set on our vintage Tobias and the tone and feel was wonderfully consistent across the entire neck. The NANOWEB also did a great job of taming the callous-shredding string catch you get with stainless steel.
