In March 2006, Joshua Scott Jones walked into a karaoke club in Nashville. There he met and sang with Meghan Linsey for the first time, belting out a version of the Air Supply hit “All Out of Love” together. The two hit it off and began dating, but were determined to pursue individual solo careers—even as their friends and associates urged them to form a duo. “We both had to swallow some pride and get on the wagon, because there was definitely something special there,” says Linsey. The couple earned national attention by winning the CMT TV reality competition Can You Duet? Steel Magnolia was subsequently signed to country label Big Machine Records and recorded its new self-titled debut with producer Dann Huff. “I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d be in a duo with my girlfriend,” admits Jones. “But it was an undeniable thing, and people connected to it.”
