FOR: Audio editing, mastering and sound design. Editors get up to 32 channels of mono, stereo and multichannel audio in a land of safe, non-destructive editing. The key commands are familiar, and a new “Event” tool makes a multitrack producer feel more at home in the mastering environment. Sound Forge now has drag-and-drop between channels, which makes mocking up a mastering project a breeze: Just use the onboard disc-at-once CD burning to listen to the rough, and replace the events with their final mixes at a later date.

NOT FOR: Advanced sample editing. The list of supported sample formats is limited, so electronic musicians may find themselves unable to use its powerful editing with their favorite libraries.
