Value and quality-driven desktop monitors
M-Audio’s AV42 powered speakers offer recording hobbyists a significant step up from conventional computer speakers in quality and value. We were surprised by the definition these near-field monitors achieve. Bass-reflex MDF cabinets account for the solidity of the AV42’s low end, whereas waveguide-controlled 1-inch silk-dome tweeters, like those found in high-end models, deliver clear highs and respectable midrange detail. Despite the upscale features, these speakers feature a combination of RCA and 1/8” stereo inputs making these monitors conveniently compatible with consumer gear.
