ASCAP Foundation Lester Sill Songwriters Workshop Now Accepting Submissions

The 2013 ASCAP Foundation Lester Sill Songwriters Workshop is now accepting submissions. Geared toward advanced songwriters, the Workshop is designed to enrich participants’ knowledge of the industry, help them establish contacts and confidence and expand their collaborative partnerships. The Workshop will take place at ASCAP’s Los Angeles office beginning in October for a series of eight sessions. Exact dates will be announced closer to the submission deadline.

Songwriters interested in applying are required to e-mail the following materials tolestersillworkshop@gmail.com:

  1. Digital versions of two recent, original songs that represent your songwriting ability*. CDs and other physical media will not be accepted. Please send your songs in ONE of the following formats:
      • A link to a streaming media page (Bandcamp, SoundCloud, etc.)
      • MP3s attached to the e-mail (limit file sizes to 10 megabytes)

    *If either of the submitted songs are co-writes, please indicate which part(s) of the song you contributed – lyrics, melody, production, etc.

  2. Lyrics for the two songs (MS Word or PDF format)
  3. A resume or bio (MS Word or PDF format)
  4. A brief explanation as to why you would like to participate in the Workshop (MS Word or PDF format)
  5. E-mail, telephone number and city of residence
  6. OPTIONAL: A link to a website where we can hear more of your music

The deadline for entries to be received is Friday, August 2nd. No exceptions.

Accepted applicants will be notified by mid-September. All other applicants will be notified of their status shortly thereafter. Please do not contact the ASCAP offices inquiring about your acceptance status. Only a limited number of applicants can be selected as participants.

Re-named in 1995 to honor ASCAP’s late Board member and industry pioneer Lester Sill, the Workshop features prominent guests from various facets of the music business, offering invaluable music career advice and face-to-face feedback in an intimate setting. Past speakers have included Sir George Martin, Dan Wilson, Rick Nowels, Greg Wells, Jackson Browne, Linda Perry, Billy Steinberg, Jon Platt, Donald Passman, Kara DioGuardi, Glen Ballard, Ben Harper, Steve Lindsey, Bonnie Hayes, Darrell Brown, Lynn Grossman, Jonatha Brooke and numerous others.

The Lester Sill Songwriters Workshop is part of an ongoing series of workshops sponsored by The ASCAP Foundation. Workshops are free of charge and open to everyone, regardless of performing rights affiliation.
