Sunshine pop for Brooklyn basement dwellers: There’s the tagline for this duo’s debut EP. Singer and guitarist David Otto has the soulful rasp and melodic sense of Them-era Van Morrison, and with the help of producer Ayad Al Adhamy, who’s pulled off similar retro-modern feats with Passion Pit, he sounds simultaneously young and used up, wide-eyed and red-eyed. “I’ll drop anything for fun,” he sings on “Bug in the Sun,” and he’s not bluffing. “I Turn On” and “C’mon C’mon” could be soda jingles, while “Where Were We on the Weekend” plays like a generational anthem. On closer “Good Morning World,” he lets optimism win out and greets the day like a kid on Christmas morning.
