ADAM, ASHLEY AND AUSTIN CLARK are Three of 11 children born to traveling ministers Freddy and Sylvia Clark (hence the name of the group), who taught them to play instruments as kids. The three were all working as sidemen to well-known country acts (Ashley for Carrie Underwood, Adam and Austin for Shedaisy) when they formed a trio in order to enter the Fox TV competition The Next Great American Band. “i didn’t think we were going to get very far in it,” Adam admits. They promptly won, beating out 10,000 other groups and earning a deal with Interscope Records. They’ve lately been opening shows for Underwood, who collaborated with the group last year on her song “What can I say.” among the 10 tracks on Sons Of Sylvia’s own recently released album, Revelation, is one (“Love Left to Lose”) that Ashley co-wrote with the siblings’ cousin, OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder. “it was surreal,” Ashley says. “We were just laughing, like, ‘Can you believe this?’ It’s been a crazy road.”
