He mixes things up on this latest effort with bandmates James Walbourne, Ric Menck and Bob Pernice, reflecting his sublime side, hints of his rootsy past and an edgier attitude that serves Pernice\u2019s feistier inclinations well. His delivery remains endlessly upbeat, even when tenacious lyrics belie the blissful melodies. The kinetic rhythms of \u201cJacqueline Susann,\u201d the lilt and croon of \u201cWe Love the Stage,\u201d the lovely \u201cThe End of Faith\u201d and the down-home steel guitar that wafts through the title track all indicate a loosening of the heartstrings. \u201cYou\u2019ve known me all my life,\u201d Pernice proclaims on \u201cThe Great Depression.\u201d Well, not really \u2026 although his music makes us feel as if we have.
