The collection spans gloomy post-punk godheads Joy Division to Julee Cruise\u2014director David Lynch\u2019s go-to artist for nightmarishly beautiful pop songs\u2014with Desire\u2019s Drive soundtrack cut \u201cUnder Your Spell\u201d thrown in for good measure. All three inform Rhyu\u2019s debut EP, though her experimental tendencies reveal an artist not simply beholden to influences. On \u201cTrue Luv\u201d and \u201cJuice of My Heart,\u201d she coos semi-intelligibly over steady beats and repeating synth lines, fashioning dazed-out New Wave not quite right for dancing.
