Gray has since floundered, releasing albums that either lacked direction (2001\u2019s <em>The Id<\/em>) or were over-polished (2007\u2019s <em>Big<\/em>). Happily, <em>The Sellout<\/em> marks a return to form. Even when painting outside the lines, Gray makes certain that every song is tethered to a classic R&amp;B foundation. High points include \u201cBeauty in the World,\u201d fueled by strummed acoustic guitar and handclaps; \u201cLet You Win,\u201d a sexy, groove-driven ballad that evokes Sly Stone and Al Green; and \u201cThat Man,\u201d a sublime slice of soul-pop.
