That\u2019s not to say he\u2019s moved away from his acoustic-based, R&amp;B-jazz-reggae-rock sound. His voice still has the kinds of subtle yet intriguing inflections one might hear in a passionate conversation, but listening to songs like \u201cSomething to Believe In,\u201d with its upbeat tempo and cheery lyrics, is disorienting at first. It\u2019s much peppier than we\u2019ve come to expect\u2014possibly because its follows the jaunty, island-flavored title track. \u201cDancer From Brazil,\u201d \u201cSummertime\u201d and \u201cBack Then\u201d\u2014which features a nifty xylophone opening\u2014offer more of the cool, urban-dude groove Cope is known for, and he presents them elegantly with just enough sass.
