It\u2019s a formula that\u2019s worked since 2005\u2019s <em>I\u2019ve Got My Own Hell to Raise<\/em>, and here, she turns in another tour de force covers record. The Detroit native makes these songs her own, occasionally altering lyrics to fit her experiences. On the Pogues\u2019 \u201cDirty Old Town,\u201d she references the Dodge Main plant and the 1967 riots, adding a rough-edged groove to match the new imagery. Her sultry take on Gnarls Barkley\u2019s \u201cCrazy\u201d is arguably her best cover to date, while versions of Neil Young\u2019s \u201cEverybody Knows This Is Nowhere\u201d and Patty Griffin\u2019s \u201cTime Will Do the Talking\u201d showcase her country-soul chops.
