As \u201cWhen We Were Five\u201d progresses, the line between love song and horror flick only grows blurrier. \u201cI\u2019ll declare you\u2019re mine,\u201d sings Soraia (who attended the same performing-arts school as Adele), but then Moog synth creeps in and she\u2019s making that pledge from <em>The Twilight Zone<\/em>. By the closing trumpet solo the sound has morphed into something resembling Radiohead covering Burt Bacharach. That mix of jazzy pop and spacey rock extends to the other tracks, the best of which pair Soraia\u2019s enigmatic lyrics and remarkably fluid fingerpicked guitar.
