The former Apples in Stereo keyboardist paints with Beatlesque brushstrokes on much of his debut, recreating George Harrison\u2019s guitar tones, Paul McCartney\u2019s \u201cBlackbird\u201d picking (on \u201cSingle Seagull\u201d), even the oom-pah bounce of the Sgt. Pepper\u2019s era (\u201cThe Modern\u201d). If all he\u2019d done was imagine a lost Fab Four album, <em>Hollows<\/em> would be an achievement, but McDuffie\u2019s psych-rock knowledge runs deeper. \u201cRiver\u2019s Song\u201d owes more to the Creation or the Move than it does to the Beatles.
