He marries the two on his latest, making for an intriguing union that turns unsettling with creepy vocals on the minor-key ballad \u201cRabbits\u201d and the seemingly unconnected rhythm track that chugs along under \u201cMy Tidy Sum.\u201d He shows off his volatile side elsewhere, going all loud-quiet-loud on \u201cSix Legged Man\u201d and unleashing a raw scream or two on \u201cDead Man\u2019s Curve,\u201d a terse rocker that piles lacerating guitars on top of soulful piano. Sometimes the sex is veiled but more often it\u2019s not: \u201cCinema Star\u201d extols the joys of, er, home movies, and \u201cWhen I Go Down On You\u201d is self-explanatory (and surprisingly sweet). It\u2019s a bold suggestion, but then Black Francis has never been shy. \u2013 Eric R.
