This British electro-pop duo may have 99 problems, but absorbing and expressing their influences ain\u2019t one. Opener \u201cSilence\u201d is a gift to New Wave geeks\u2014a three-minute trip in which Frankie Goes to Hollywood on OMD\u2019s <em>Dazzle Ships<\/em>. On the bratty proto-rap playground chant \u201cHit Me Down Sonny,\u201d the Tings ring the church bells from Blondie\u2019s \u201cRapture,\u201d a song that\u2014alongside vintage Beastie Boys jams\u2014informs most of this disc\u2019s 10 tracks. Things turn maudlin on the closing two tunes, as the group unplugs for the pleading \u201cHelp\u201d and bows the world\u2019s saddest violin on \u201cIn Your Life.\u201d The sun doesn\u2019t always shine in <em>Nowheresville<\/em>, and that\u2019s A-OK.
