Given their curatorial passion for rock music, it\u2019s fitting the ladies open Wild Flag\u2019s debut with \u201cRomance\u201d and \u201cSomething Came Over Me,\u201d love songs whose key lyrics\u2014\u201csound is the blood between us,\u201d \u201cyou\u2019re coming through in stereo\u201d\u2014suggest Carrie Brownstein and Mary Timony are singing more about beloved records than people. Brownstein and drummer Janet Weiss are best known for the abrasive, often political songs they wrote with Sleater-Kinney, but here keyboardist Rebecca Cole gives even the harsher tunes an almost bubblegum feel.
