True to Lambert\u2019s spitfire image, the characters in <em>Hell on Heels<\/em> encompass several species of bad girl: In the title track they\u2019re on the loose, unapologetically taking everything they can from the men\u2014some deserving, some not so much\u2014they come across. Those songs are balanced by articulations of desperation and vulnerability; there\u2019s the bride contemplating the limited prospects following a shotgun wedding (\u201cBeige\u201d) and another woman so trapped by her circumstances that she\u2019s contemplating burning down her house (\u201cHousewife\u2019s Prayer\u201d).
