Their parents, Barny and Carter Robertson, were members of the late Waylon Jennings\u2019 1970s band\u2014he as keyboardist, she as backing vocalist. The sisters themselves made their debut singing on Jennings\u2019 1993 kids\u2019 album <em>Cowboys, Sisters, Rascals &amp; Dirt<\/em>. \u201cWaylon was a big part of our lives,\u201d Becky recalls. \u201cWe were inspired being surrounded by so much music.\u201d There was never much doubt that the three of them would head to Nashville and pursue a musical career of their own. \u201cWe\u2019ve always known this is what we were going to do,\u201d Emily says. \u201cIt hasn\u2019t ever been a matter of if, it\u2019s always been a matter of when.\u201d Their new six-song EP was co-produced by country star Toby Keith, who signed them to his Show Dog imprint.\u00a0\u201cThis is the real Carter\u2019s Chord,\u201d says Becky. \u201cIt\u2019s the music we\u2019ve always wanted to make.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CARTER&#8217;S CHORD HOMETOWN: Los Angeles INFLUENCES: Fleetwood Mac, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings ALBUM: Wild Together, out May 23 WEBSITE: carterschord.com Joanna, Emily and Becky Robertson grew up in the midst of country music history.
