<\/h2>\n<\/h2>\nHOMETOWN:<\/strong> Woodstock, N.Y. In a way, Hope\u2019s destiny in music was preordained by the bittersweet circumstances of her birth: Her twin sister,\u00a0Faith, died just days after both were born. \u201cSometimes I feel like half of me is not here,\u201d she says. \u201cMusic has become a\u00a0huge part of that other half. I rely on the music to give me sanity and inspiration.\u201d As she grew up, her interest in music was\u00a0encouraged by her parents\u2014her father had served as musical director for the original Broadway production of Hair<\/em> in the 1970s.<\/p>\n She learned piano and guitar, and by 13 was writing her own songs. After high school she headed to Los Angeles with\u00a0$40 in her pocket.\u00a0She got her start playing at Santa Monica\u2019s Third Street Promenade and on the Venice Beach Boardwalk, singing for\u00a0passers-by and selling the independent CD she produced\u00a0with her brother Christian. \u201cI remember cutting off the top of my green gloves to play my guitar one winter,\u201d she says. \u201cIt was the best learning experience I\u2019ve ever had.\u201d A copy of her album found its way to Atlantic Records\u2014and within a few months the\u00a0label had signed her.<\/p>\n Hope went to work on her major-label debut, including\u00a0sessions at the historic Abbey Road studios in London.\u00a0\u201cThere was a 65-piece orchestra playing my songs,\u201d she says.\u00a0\u201cIt was surreal, and I was in tears.\u201d Her new single, the\u00a0optimistic \u201cLove, Love, Love,\u201d reflects her frame of mind as she awaits the release of her album. \u201cIt\u2019s about feeling so much excitement and anticipation that you don\u2019t know what to do with yourself,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen I listen to my record, I\u2019m so ecstatic to finally be able to share my songs with the world.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" HOPE HOMETOWN: Woodstock, N.Y.
