LANG AND THE SISS BOOM BANG<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><em>Sing It Loud<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[Nonesuch]<\/p>\n<p>This is the first release that comes with an \u201cand\u201d after k.d. lang\u2019s name since the Reclines shared billing on her first three records. The last of those, <em>Absolute Torch and Twang<\/em>, was also the last country album she made. So does the return of a band also signal a return to those roots? Not exactly, but <em>Sing It Loud<\/em> may be as close as she\u2019s been since then. Siss Boom Bang contributes recurrent touches of Dobro, banjo and pedal steel throughout the album, and a couple of the songs drift fully into country territory (the dreamy Mavericks-like vibe of \u201cA Sleep With No Dreaming,\u201d the folk-country feel of \u201cInglewood\u201d). Whatever the genre, on songs ranging from the classic Roy Orbison groove of \u201cI Confess\u201d to the soaring flawlessness of \u201cPerfect Word\u201d and the more muscular \u201cSugar Buzz,\u201d her voice remains a source of wonder that hasn\u2019t lost one iota of its pitch-perfect force. \u2013Stuart Munro<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>K.D.
