Amid shimmering, ghostly guitars, she admits, \u201cI was just a little bit high.\u201d That confession could account for about half of <em>Western Ballad<\/em>, which finds her and collaborator Mark Bingham cranking up the reverb and creating a cool, spooky sound they call \u201cpsychedelic Americana.\u201d \u201cToast,\u201d on the other hand, characterizes the album\u2019s less moody side. As with \u201cHigh,\u201d the sun is low in the sky\u2014but this time the workday is ending, and McNally is game for raising a glass and singing a big, cathartic country-rock chorus.
