He has it both ways on his star-studded latest, enlisting top-shelf guitarists Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot and Greg Leisz for some adventurous reworking of classic country tunes. Roger Miller\u2019s goofball hit \u201cDang Me\u201d is transformed into a dark, brooding tale of dissipation with Ribot\u2019s noisy ambient guitars and a vocal by Chocolate Genius\u2014think Spike Jones by way of Chuck Palahniuk. The instrumental standard \u201cFreight Train\u201d is given a sprightly groove marked by Miller\u2019s trademark tremolo, and Eddy Arnold\u2019s \u201cCattle Call\u201d is set against a landscape of ambient guitars.
