ESTABLISHED AS A POP STAR IN HER NATIVE AUSTRALIA since 2007, singer and keyboardist Kate Miller-Heidke is poised to make a similar splash in the u.s. she recorded Curiouser<\/em> over more than two months in Los Angeles, collaborating with guitarist (and husband) Keir Nuttal and producer Mickey Petralia. Miller-Heidke says the album whose sound she describes as \u201cexperimental, hooky and unashamedly pop\u201d was born in a burst of collective inspiration. \u201cWe went into this album with a vision,\u201d she recalls. \u201cWe mapped out how we wanted it to sound\u2014the aesthetic, the spirit of it.\u201d Curiouser<\/em> is already a platinum-selling hit in Australia, where it snagged several nominations at the country\u2019s Grammy equivalent, the prestigious ARIA awards. the set\u2019s distinctive moniker came from producer Petralia. \u201cMickey thought \u2018Curiouser\u2019 was a noun, something that made you more curious,\u201d she explains. \u201cthat\u2019s what made up my mind about the title. Wouldn\u2019t it be great if people listened to this album and it made them curiouser?\u201d<\/p>\n
