This album marks their fifth collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb, and was recorded at Nashville\u2019s legendary RCA Studio A and Blackbird Studios.<\/p>\n<p>Building anticipation for the release, their third single, \u201cThat\u2019s the Way Mama Made It,\u201d written by Leroy Powell, David Cobb and Duane Allen, features the newest Oak Ridge Boy, Ben James on lead vocals\u2014and is now available for download and streaming on all digital platforms.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21270\" src=\"https:\/\/mmusicmag.com\/m\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Mmusicmag-BEN-JAMES-04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"661\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mmusicmag.com\/m\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Mmusicmag-BEN-JAMES-04.jpg 660w, https:\/\/mmusicmag.com\/m\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Mmusicmag-BEN-JAMES-04-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mmusicmag.com\/m\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Mmusicmag-BEN-JAMES-04-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeroy Powell came into the control room with parts of a song going around in his head,\u201d shares Duane Allen. \u201cHe was almost in a writer\u2019s trance. David Cobb and I were there early. Leroy needed help with lines and words. Very quickly, the structure of the song fell in place. I felt it should be a Ben James feature, so we recorded the tracks in a key at the top of my range. You may have heard about songs being written in Nashville, and you go right into the studio and record it. This is it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Oak Ridge Boys have long had a gift for connecting with listeners through their heartfelt lyrics and rich harmonies, and their upcoming album Mama\u2019s Boys, the first to feature Ben James on tenor, is no exception.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019d told me when I was a little kid that I would be on a recording with any of The Oak Ridge Boys, I wouldn\u2019t have believed you. This album is a heartfelt celebration of the profound impact that mothers, and other strong women, have had in shaping our lives. With Mama\u2019s Boys, Cobb and The Oak Ridge Boys strike a powerful emotional chord, reminding us of the lasting bond we share with the women who raised us.<\/p>\n<p>We talked with Ben James about this amazing opportunity to sing with legends, and the journey that brought him here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is one main thing you learned about yourself after performing with The Oak Ridge Boys?<\/strong><br \/>\nI think I have learned how to step into a difficult situation and to be confident, regardless of the circumstances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It must have been a dream come true to work with such legends\u2014and such an honor for them to trust you. How do you show your gratitude for that trust?<\/strong><br \/>\nI think the Boys know who I am, as a person, so I don\u2019t have to go out of my way for them to understand how much I love them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What one piece of advice did Joe Bonsall give you?<\/strong><br \/>\nIn his Philadelphia way, he said don\u2019t worry about what anybody thinks\u2014just go out there and sing your butt off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there one song you especially like singing on stage?<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cY\u2019all Come Back Saloon.\u201d Before I even knew these guys it was one of my all-time favorite country songs. I think it\u2019s the epitome of a rock-solid country song. If you look up the definition of country music, you will find \u201cY\u2019all Come Back Saloon\u201d in the description.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You\u2019ve been singing with The Boys for a little while. Please tell us a \u201cpinch me\u201d moment when you thought \u201cWow, this is really happening to me!\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nThe first time I ever sang on The Grand Ole Opry with them\u2014that was especially special.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You grew up singing gospel harmony, and you\u2019ve reached some top recognition in the bluegrass world, as well as your solo work. How does your own music, recording and performance help you with your work with The Boys?<\/strong><br \/>\nI started with Doyle Lawson, which was music school! And I\u2019m glad I had that background before I tried to step onstage with the legendary people the Boys are and continue to be.<\/p>\n<p><strong>With your own solo work, please tell us the inspiration behind your songwriting.<\/strong><br \/>\nI don\u2019t know where it comes from. It\u2019s random. I can be fishing or driving down the road and see something. Normally, I write songs really fast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there a songwriting tip you\u2019d like to offer?<\/strong><br \/>\nFind people who are better than you and learn from them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And what instruments\/equipment can you not live without?<\/strong><br \/>\nA good bass and a good steel guitar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which Top 5 Musicians inspired you to become a musician\/singer?<\/strong><br \/>\nJoe Bonsall<br \/>\nJimmy Fortune<br \/>\nEagles<br \/>\nDan Seals<br \/>\nRandy Travis<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the best advice someone has given you?<\/strong><br \/>\nYou\u2019ve got to be tough.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What advice would you give someone who wants to become a musician?<\/strong><br \/>\nAs I said with songwriting, find people who are better than you.
