Veteran photographer Jeff Fasano has 7 days to go for his Kickstarter campaign\u2014to publish his first fine-art book: AMERICANA PORTRAIT SESSIONS<\/em>.<\/p>\n

We talked with Jeff Fasano about his portrait of JEWEL<\/u><\/strong>:<\/p>\n

I remember her walking down from City Winery in shorts and cowboy boots saying \u201cHey, you must be Jeff Fasano.\u201d Jewel\u2019s an actor too and she told me, \u201cI always wanted to do a shot like an Audrey Hepburn photo.\u201d From that I figured she wanted those old 40s and 50s B&W shots, and I said, \u201cGo for it.\u201d That\u2019s when she looked up\u2014and that the shot where she\u2019s standing. She looked and me and said, I always wanted to do that.\u201d And that\u2019s what got me the gig at City Winery where I continue to do portrait sessions backstage before City Winery performances.<\/p>\n

After we did that shot, she wanted to keep on going. That\u2019s the year she opened AmericanaFest, and City Winery was her first night. I got a chance to see her show and it was a packed audience. I was able to see firsthand how Jewel draws you in because she\u2019s so amazingly authentic and real.<\/p>\n

After her show, I went back to her dressing room and she was sitting there. I noticed that she was all by herself. Artists sometimes have a difficult time with the music business and you can see it. I immediately remembered what Lisa Marie Presley said to me where she had a tough time with music business people. All of these people were in her dressing room\u2014and she\u2019s all by herself, looking at all these people. I walked over to her and said, \u201cEverything you talk about and say comes from your heart\u2014and that\u2019s why people love you. That\u2019s why I always wanted to meet you. Even when you talked about the extensions in your hair\u2014you made people laugh\u2014and it\u2019s real. You are authentic\u2014it\u2019s in your heart and it comes through in your show.\u201d<\/p>\n
