Not that this material is stripped down entirely; while selections like \u201cForgetting,\u201d \u201cThe Old Chair\u201d and \u201cWhen I Was in Your Heart\u201d keep the instrumentation to a minimum, tracks like \u201cOnly the Wine,\u201d \u201cIn God\u2019s Name\u201d and the album\u2019s rousing crescendo, \u201cDavey Jones\u2019 Locker,\u201d gather support from muffled drums, hints of brass or a scorching slide guitar. The common link is Gray\u2019s determination to peel these offerings back to their emotional core and keep the proceedings as uncluttered as possible.
