This 18-song collection, culled from the above albums and fleshed out with three essential singles, shows why Barrett remains such a revered cult figure. \u201cArnold Layne\u201d and \u201cSee Emily Play\u201d sound as fresh as ever, and warrant high-level slots in the British pop pantheon. \u201cBike\u201d and \u201cOctopus\u201d are nearly as good, each sporting melodies that enthrall and lyrics that sparkle like demented nursery rhymes. Even the disjointed oddities\u2014\u201cDark Globe,\u201d for instance\u2014percolate with Barrett\u2019s whimsical genius. By the mid-\u201970s, emotional and mental difficulties had put an end to Barrett\u2019s recording career.
