Likewise, <em>Confessions<\/em>, her first album in eight years, shines brightest when she\u2019s at her most lighthearted, reveling in the tricky rhythms of \u201cYou Fascinate Me So\u201d and the subtle sauciness of the Disney classic \u201cHe\u2019s a Tramp.\u201d Unfortunately, the upbeat tunes are few, and the stripped-down arrangements by pianist Billy Stritch do little to differentiate one ballad from the next. While she certainly has the pedigree to tackle Etta James\u2019 \u201cAt Last,\u201d Minnelli\u2019s version doesn\u2019t add much interest to the overdone tune. As a collection of some of the legend\u2019s longtime favorites, <em>Confessions<\/em> does grant listeners a brief glimpse into Minnelli\u2019s taste and sly sense of humor.
