Saturday May 2nd<\/strong><\/p>\n

ASCAP “I Create Music EXPO”\u00a0<\/strong>attendees turned out\u00a0in droves\u00a0for the morning’s legislative panel, “Washington DC: How New Laws and Copyright Changes Will Impact Music Creators.” \u00a0The high profile lineup\u00a0delivered a call to action for songwriters to support changes to outdated copyright regulations\u00a0and\u00a0included ASCAP President Paul Williams, Congressman Doug Collins (GA), Congressman Hakeem Jeffries (NY) and singer-songwriter Aloe Blacc.\u00a0\u00a0The four leaders urged the crowd to visit\u00a0bit.ly\/Support_SEA<\/a>\u00a0to learn more and contact their elected representatives.<\/p>\n

Savan Kotecha was interviewed by ASCAP VP Pop\/Rock Membership Marc Emert-Hutner for \u00a0a Master Session, “The Economics of a Hit Songwriter.” \u00a0Kotecha talked about the hidden costs and tenacity required to build a career, but also offered encouragement to those just starting out on the path.<\/p>\n

The EXPO closed with the Writers’ Jam, a live concert featuring some of the best songwriters of the last decade, including Andrew Bird, Aloe Blacc, Ashley Gorley and Andrea Martin.<\/p>\n
