Jansen clearly has a hoot writing them, too. While she seldom strays from genre tropes, she does tough-chick anthems (\u201cCan\u2019t Tame Me,\u201d \u201cA Country Girl Can Survive\u201d), wounded ballads (\u201cDarlin\u2019\u201d), and semiautobiographical tales of showbiz dreamers (\u201cGuilty,\u201d \u201cHeartbreak Kid\u201d) with a freshness remarkable for someone who\u2019s been writing songs since she was 6. Musically, she\u2019s more a classicist than a pop-crossover threat, and that\u2019s the smart play.
