Rarer still is a group this familiar to one another that manages to keep diving into uncharted waters. For the 2009 Swiss concert heard here, Jarrett was in a particularly improvisational mood. Opener \u201cDeep Space\u201d is all explorations and sudden shifts of temperament, and DeJohnette sits out the first three minutes, holding back until he\u2019s got an idea where Jarrett and Peacock are heading, which turns out to be Miles Davis\u2019 \u201cSolar.\u201d Not that <i>Somewhere <\/i>is a complete departure.
