No one is going to argue with the name. This super group features a Neville (percussionist Cyril) and an Allman (Devon, son of Gregg)—kingly names in Dixie circles—as well as celebrated blues guitarist Mike Zito and the ace rhythm section of bassist Charlie Wooton and drummer Yonrico Scott. What do they get for their shared pedigree and stockpile of talent? For starters, there are wiggly wah-wah-driven swamp-funk workouts, such as Neville’s “Fired Up!” and choice rockers, among them Allman’s aptly named “Gotta Keep Rockin’”—a mix of Southern soul and Van Halen strut. They bring it all home with closer “Brotherhood,” the African-inspired blues-funk dance party they were bound to throw.
