Official SXSW Music Showcase

Thursday, March 15, at the Iron Bear in Austin

Featuring VHS or Beta, The Ettes, Capsula, Hands, The Strange Familiar and Suckers

Dance-rock favorites VHS Or Beta, Nashville retro-rockers The Ettes, L.A. indie band Hands, Brooklyn quirk-poppers Suckers, Argentinean garage punks Capsula, and Ohio’s The Strange Familiar will perform at Austin’s Iron Bear on Thursday, March 15, beginning at 8 pm.

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE:

8:00pm – THE STRANGE FAMILIAR
Indie-pop band The Strange Familiar have been heard by millions on network television, seen their songs recorded by major artists and are now set to release their debut album on April 10. Chasing Shadows is filed with smoky acoustic grooves, jubilant choruses, big hooks and smart lyrics—all of which show off lead singer and pianist Kira Leyden’s soulful voice. thestrangefamiliar.com

9:00pm – CAPSULA
The second album by Argentina’s Capsula, In the Land of Silver Souls, is a striking combination of vintage garage-rock and modern attitude. The band was forged creatively by the Argentinian dictatorship’s censorship of music. In a place where subversive lyrical and music expression was a difficult necessity, the members of Capsula found their sound: the unbound emotion of dirty rock. capsula.org

10:00pm – HANDS
With technical authority, a profound sense of tempo, solid complementary bass thumps and the occasional auxiliary drums, Hands’ interplay of esoteric guitar riffs and soaring vocals is augmented by sampling and looping techniques for blissfully fresh sound. Having scored opening spots for Deerhoof, DeVotchKa, Foster the People and more, Hands will release a new EP this spring. handssounds.com

11:00pm – SUCKERS
Suckers are on a mission to break musical barriers while maintaining a classic pop accessibility. The group has packed Brooklyn venues and shared bills with acts like Yeasayer, MGMT, Dragons Of Zynth, Chairlift, Kyp Malone and Awesome Color. The lush tapestry of joyous pop, style and imagination on Suckers’ self-titled debut EP (produced by Yeasayer’s Anand Wilder)–-and its hit single, “It Gets Your Body Movin'”—launched them to global acclaim. suckersmusic.com

12:00am – THE ETTES
Wicked Will is the fourth record from the rowdy and relentless Nashville garage rock trio The Ettes. It’s a showcase for the group’s fearless vocals, fuzz bass runs, driving drums beats, searing guitar lines and, of course, loads of black eyeliner and attitude. Female attitude. theettes.com

1:00am – VHS OR BETA
The Brooklyn based dance-rock band VHS OR BETA released its fourth album, Diamonds and Death, in the fall of 2011. From the backroom disco of their favorite Bushwick watering hole to DFA Records’ Plantain Studio in the West Village, new surroundings had a powerful influence on the electronic grooves of their first full-length since 2007. vhsorbeta.com
