Sing Me to Sleep: Indie Lullabies

With all proceeds going to the Valerie Fund, an organization helping children with cancer and blood disorders, this effort succeeds before the first note is ever strummed. Despite contributions from a broad contingent of shoegazing ensembles, there aren’t many headliners—Stars, Neil Halstead and Tanya Donelly are the few better-known names. Yet given a selection of standards that includes “Moon River,” “Sounds of Silence,” “Edelweiss” and “Dear Prudence,” this utterly charming set of dreamy diversions succeeds on its own terms. Jenny Owen Youngs sings, “When we were kids/We hated things our parents did” on “Have You Forgotten,” but Sing Me to Sleep can be appreciated by young and old alike.
